PDX-Rx.com Facilitates Customers’ Participation in Google Flu Vaccine Locator

Recently, PDX-Rx.com assisted Google Health™ giving our customer-partners the ability to participate in a project that raises the general public’s awareness regarding pharmacies that provide flu vaccinations for H1N1 and seasonal flu. This effort—spearheaded by Google and involving the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Lung Association (ALA), and state and local health agencies—is a response to the difficulty consumers are having locating pharmacies and other health providers that offer these flu vaccinations and have vaccines in stock.

The project is now live at www.google.com/flushot and will also be available soon on www.flu.gov and the American Lung Association Web sites. Currently, the interactive map contains data for locations of flu vaccine—both the nasal-spray and shot—directly from 20 states and counting. Results already include PDX customer-partners Aurora Health Care, Duane Reade, Fred’s, Giant Eagle, Kmart, Meijer, Shopko, Snyder’s Drug, Wakefern, and Winn Dixie. Google continues to add information from chain pharmacies and other providers throughout all 50 states and territories.

Google stresses:

“It's important to note that this project is just beginning and we have not yet received information about flu shot clinics for many locations. In addition, many locations that are shown are currently out of stock. We launched this service now in order to help disseminate information about locations where vaccines are available, and also to make more vaccine providers aware of the project so that they can contribute.”

Google Health is already powering the “Where You Live” interactive map on FLU.gov available at http://www.flu.gov/whereyoulive/healthmap.

Although pharmacies that use PDX and EPS can work directly with Google Health via the ALA, PDX-Rx.com will facilitate the data exchange with Google Health on their behalf, simplifying the process considerably.
